Slanguage at Compound is a lab to support the development of innovative ways of thinking about education, creative process, contemporary social issues and community.
Slanguage will be hosting a series of virtual art family and wellness workshops focused on the power of creativity. Inspired by the idea of “Use What You Have,” this series of workshops aims to create a fun, safe, creative space that will provoke engagement, new ways of thinking, empowerment and bring communities together.
- “Quarantine Printing Cosmos” is a workshop that will teach students to interpret the cosmos by exploring printing possibilities through the use of common household items such as cups, recyclable bottles, and sandals to make patterns, lines, shading, and other drawing elements.

- “Gotta See it to Be it” is a series of interviews and talks with artists and art professionals about their practices and professional development. Examples include “Pencil tools and tips for artists,” “Organizing your studio/workplace,” and “Developing your voice.” This activity will interview a guest speaker to discuss how artists can continue to develop their voices during social upheaval.

- “Writing/Storytelling/Poetry” is a workshop that will lead students into building an artwork out of found/recycled materials to create a story. The workshop will start with a reading of a poem, quotation, book, or other writing from which to draw inspiration.

- “DJ, Art and Lunch” creates conversations about the intersections between music, food, and art.

Activity: This day, the activity will lead students to listen to music and draw. The theme will be generated by participants.
