Carolyn Castaño, Valley of the Sun, 2019, watercolor, gouache, and acrylic on paper.
Workshop 1: I'm Here for You. Send a Message out to the World
Sunday, December 6 at 2pm.
During the pandemic, many people are suffering from loneliness, are affected by the political state of things, or are simply struggling to get through each day. Create an artwork or poster that lets others know that you care and that you are here for them. Place these signs outside your home or in a public space, so that someone who might need to see/hear your message comes across it.
Materials: Drawing paper or cardboard, colored pencils, markers or acrylic paint and brushes. A dowel stick and electrical tape.
Workshop 2: Power Hits for the Soul, or I Can Sing to My Selfie: A Private/ Public Performance
Sunday December 20th at 2pm.
Lately many of us have spent countless hours and days alone. Music is often a poetic expression of life’s experiences of love, loss, and longing.
What song moves or motivates you? What song do you privately sing in the shower or the privacy of your car? Sing “your” song and really get into it. Feel the feels. What does it remind you of? Why do you feel a certain way?
I will play some feel-good power hits to sing, hum, or dance along to.
Selfie Singing - Film yourself singing, lip synching, or dancing to your favorite power hit. Is it a love song or a loss song? Tag @compoundlbc on Instagram!
Workshop 3: Tropical Self-Care Smoothies
Sunday, January 10 at 2pm.
Are you eating your vegetables? Your fruits? Go on vacation or take someone to the tropics via tropical self-care smoothies.
Materials: Milk, almond milk, or coconut milk, frozen fruit or fresh fruit, dates, ginger, turmeric, and other fun ingredients.
Workshop 4: I Protect You / You Protect Me!
Sunday, January 24 at 2pm.
Mask Alteration and Decoration
Decorate your masks to show your true authentic self. Make crazy masks, scary masks, monster masks, or fancy masks.
Materials: Paper or plain masks (Target has kids' masks for $1.00!). Tacky glue or hot glue gun (grown folk only). Sequins, feathers, rhinestones, lace, other textural items.
